Copper tone

Drove out to a convenient rural location early this morning to catch a nice view of a total lunar eclipse.

It had been a while since I’d seen such an event. I forgot how beautifully dark it gets when the moonlight gets snuffed out by Earth’s shadow.

At first you notice you can’t see your shadow anymore, then stars of lower magnitude show up, then the Milky Way gets really milky.

Apart from occasional noise from a nearby quarry, it was perfectly quiet, perfectly still.

The only downside was the temperature. I had a toque and gloves on pretty much the whole time, and my feet were ice cold for hours afterward as I tried to get some sleep.
