Bacon chocolate

My friend Sean and I walked into La Vieille Europe on St. Laurent Blvd. in Montreal and found this delectable treat on its shelves.
He, his wife and I tried it later on and we all gave it a passing grade.
Not the most obvious flavour pairing, I know, but it was very interesting.
Although I liked it very much, I don’t recommend having more than one square at a time.

The mascots for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games were on hand in Castlegar, B.C., on Aug. 16, 2008, to help open the town’s new town hall and adjacent Spirit Square. Unfortunately for the mascots (and the actors playing them) it was about 38 degrees C at the time — roughly 100 degrees F.

How *not* to beat the heat

Spent my days off taking in some of the shows at the Calgary Fringe Festival, taking place at various venues in Inglewood this year.
My friend and colleague Dave Breakenridge is blogging about the Fringe at the Calgary Sun website. If you’ve got a minute, go see what he thinks of the acts. And if you’ve got a little more time, go down to take in some of the shows.

Serendipity is one of the businesses in Inglewood with extended hours during the Fringe.

From the Ground Up
From the Ground Up is a furniture store by day but a Fringe venue by night.

Long journey

As I was on my way to meet my friend for a photowalk, I ran into Herman Zapp, who’s driven his 1928 Graham-Paige Model 610 from Argentina to Alaska. He says he’s about to undertake a drive across Asia.
Getting around
His antique was parked at 8 St. and 12 Ave. S.W. and was attracting a steady stream of curious onlookers. Good luck to you, Herman.

Went photowalking with Dave from work — he calls it “photo wandering” — through downtown Calgary today. Here’s a picture of Olympic Plaza:

Citius, Altius, Fortius
Of course, we found a bit of time to fool around:

First place

Like they say in French, “ça va mieux à deux.”

Go to my Zooomr site to see more photos from our afternoon on the town.
