Ever-changing skyline

Here’s a look toward Calgary’s downtown core, from the south end of the bridge linking Inglewood with St. Patrick’s Island. It seems as if there’s a new building to see every time I make it here to capture a skyline photo.

Not-so-standard art

This seven-storey sculpture called Bloom graces the public space on St. Patrick’s Island in Calgary. The assemblage of street lights conceived by Montreal-born artist Michel de Broin was unveiled last year.

King Eddy reborn

Back after a few weeks AFK.
Also (soon to be) back is Calgary’s venerable King Edward Hotel, a noted blues venue, which was carefully dismantled and rebuilt as part of the new Canadian Music Centre in East Village.
Above, how things looked a few weekends ago … and below, when the King Eddy stood alone at the corner of 9 Ave. and 4 St. S.E., almost five years ago.

Blues and more blues

Star Trek-themed correction

This isn’t your standard newspaper correction. Published in the Wednesday, Feb. 24, edition of the Calgary Sun.

I was asked to make this correction more nerdy than it already was, so … I made it so.
See some of my more thought-provoking work, mainly commentary.

Vintage cycling

Here’s an old-school bike sitting outside an old-school local neighbourhood general store. Snapped outside Bridgeland Market in Calgary this weekend.

Politically astute commentary

Some very smart graffiti scrawled onto a wall in Calgary’s Kensington neighbourhood, spotted a few days ago. Too bad few people will see it in person: It’s in a space about half-a-metre wide between two buildings on 10 St. N.W.

Calgary at sunset, once more

Golden hour, dead of winter

So if you didn’t already know, I’m a real sucker for sunset shots … and Calgary seems particularly pretty at that hour. Here’s the downtown skyline as seen from my employer’s temporary office space, just a short drive from our usual workplace. Snapped at the beginning of January.
