Sur le belvédère

This is a classic Montreal viewpoint. I’d never been as an adult — and drawing on my (admittedly dusty) recollections from my youth, it’s quite possible I’d never seen Montreal from here at all until now.

Géant en construction

Now *that’s* different!
It was utterly shocking to turn a corner in Montreal’s Chinatown and see the new University of Montreal hospital complex (Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal) rising high where there used to be only sky. I’ve seen it slowly built on my visits over the years but this is the first time the structure’s seemed so in-your-face.
The building is clearly going to dwarf the entire neighbourhood around it. (For the sake of perspective, I was a bit shy of 500 metres from the building when I snapped this shot.)
There’s a website for the new hospital, en français bien sûr!

Sognefjord by moonlight

I’m glad I decided to take a peek outside my window before bed: This was the view from my hotel room in Balestrand, Norway, a few weeks ago.

Smoke-tempered Supermoon

Here’s my contribution to all the Supermoon photos out there. No colour correction here: the moon had an orange glow about it last night, probably because of all the smoke from a forest fire not too far from Calgary.

Northern lights

Took a detour on the way home, to take advantage of the darker sky over Nose Hill and get a rare glimpse of northern lights from inside Calgary city limits.

Sparkling prairie jewel

Here’s a view captured a few nights ago from one of my favourite lookouts in Calgary: the top of McHugh Bluff.

Neon tree

This is one of the metallic wind-breaking “trees” on Stephen Avenue in Calgary.
And it’s actually a neon colour lit in LED … but why sweat the small stuff when it looks so neat at night?
