I read on the Interwebs in the last few days of the demise of 5 Pointz, a large industrial complex in Queens that was once a haven for graffiti artists.
And what a haven it was. Much of the building’s exterior surface was transformed from a one-time industrial wasteland to colourful, bright urban art.
The building even hosted artists inside for a time.
Here are some snapshots from that place, taken on my last visit to New York in August 2011. I’m very glad I got to see it before it was dismantled.
