It seems the statue of Dutch painter Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn made himself a few friends since the last time I walked through this square in Amsterdam. This was how Rembrandt’s army looked on a soggy evening back in September.

I’ve always found it fascinating what people click on in my bucket of photos stored on Flickr. This photo shows a nondescript hallway at the office … and it’s been consistently #3 to #5 for all-time views over the last little while.

This is one of the retro symbols of Germany.
Ampelmann is the name given to the “walk” symbol from pedestrian traffic lights in East Germany during communist times.
The figure was so beloved, there was an uproar when officials tried to replace it. As a consequence, they remain an active holdover … and it wouldn’t be shocking to find them in parts of Germany that were never behind the Iron Curtain.
