This is the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo. The only steel ski jump in the world, it was refurbished for championships in 2011 and there are more renovations underway at the park as Olso gets set to host a biathlon competition in 2016.

My first communication breakdown of the trip. For breakfast today, I thought I’d ordered bacon and egg on toast. Instead, I got a toasted sandwich of ham, cheese and … wait for it … barbecue sauce, with a side salad. This unexpected turn of events was delicious.

Easily overlooked, tucked in behind the Centraal Station in Amsterdam, is this transit bus terminal with its fine curved glass roof modelled after the train shed next door.
