A rodeo event that’s definitely set in stone! The sculpture called Eight Seconds to Glory by Shane R.L. Sutherland, along 3rd Street S.W. in downtown Calgary, depicts a bull rider hanging onto his animal. (It looks as if he’ll lose his cowboy hat, however.)

It’s always a neat challenge to capture this piece of art in a new way. “Conversation” by William McElcheran, on the Stephen Avenue Mall just outside the Hudson’s Bay department store, is seen from behind the shoulder of one of the interlocutors. The image was captured the morning after snow blanketed the city of Calgary a few days ago.

Everything in Calgary — trees in particular — was left beautifully draped with fluffy, wet snow a few days ago. I went out for a wander to capture some of that before the sun melted everything off.
