Several months ago, I told you about an awesome mural in Calgary’s Kensington defaced by taggers. It suffered more damage since then but, subsequently, has received some tender loving care. Let that flag fly! Happy Canada Day to fellow Canadians everywhere … and whoever else wants to join in the party.
Now … time for a singalong.
O Canada
Our home and native land
True patriot love
In all thy sons command
With glowing hearts we see the rise
The true north strong and free
From far and wide, O Canada
We stand on guard for thee
God keep our land
Glorious and free
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee
O Canada, Canadian national anthem, lyrics by Justice Robert Stanley Weir, music by Calixa Lavallée.
Here’s more than you’d ever want to know about the tune … and lyrics for the official French and bilingual versions, too.

Take in this view while you can: This block in Calgary’s Kensington area is about to change dramatically. The affected businesses here have either moved away or shuttered for good and the buildings will soon disappear to make way for the Lido condo building, named for the landmark Chinese-Canadian restaurant seen here.
