Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Calgary’s Tuscany neighbourhood in deep suburbia, seen a few months ago through the frame of a soccer net.

Doomed

Rebirth

This is — or more to the point, was — 101 to 129 19 St. N.W. When I snapped the top photo back in February 2013, I guessed the site would be overtaken by a condominium development. The bottom photo shows how things look now.

Endangered streetscape

Take in this view while you can: This block in Calgary’s Kensington area is about to change dramatically. The affected businesses here have either moved away or shuttered for good and the buildings will soon disappear to make way for the Lido condo building, named for the landmark Chinese-Canadian restaurant seen here.
