Flickr IPTC glitch persists in iOS app

20140707-flickr

With recent security changes at Flickr making it impossible (for now) to upload pictures there from my favourite mobile photo editing apps, I’ve resorted to exporting images to my camera roll and uploading them from the Flickr iOS app.
Although I’m happy to see most IPTC data are now being properly read and transferred by the app, one critical field always comes up blank when pictures appear online: the title.
Indeed, after uploading a test image for which every IPTC data field was filled in, no data are automatically read and converted into a photo title.
While this is just a minor inconvenience for uploading one image, having to manually re-insert titles for a batch upload could be quite the chore.
(And for the record, I uploaded the same image to Flickr from my desktop … and every field filled in perfectly, including the title.)
This is just the latest chapter in a long-running issue with Flickr’s iOS app and IPTC data.

Visual restoration underway

Visual restoration

Several months ago, I told you about an awesome mural in Calgary’s Kensington defaced by taggers. It suffered more damage since then but, subsequently, has received some tender loving care. What you see here is primer applied over some tagged section, made ready for the artist to re-create his masterpiece.

Watercolour coming alive

After the United Brotherhood Of Carpenters and Joiners left their longtime home on 10 St. N.W. in Calgary, a temporary wall went up around it … and soon after, the art began to appear.

Art in progress

Know your priorities

Good to know what’s where! This simple, elegant piece of marketing is between Peasant Cheese and Kensington Wine Market in Calgary. (Also: it’s very fortuitous for the cheese shop to have opened next to a wine shop.)

Hollywood & Vine

Reaching a little ways back into the vault … here’s a photo from my visit to Los Angeles last year, from the Hollywood/Vine Metro station. Love the culturally appropriate film-spool-ceiling-tiles.

Holding out against the tide

With an entire neighbourhood disappearing around it, this house near the Calgary Stampede grounds has somehow withstood the changes. At last report, it was to be moved to make way for a condo project. When I last visited it at the end of April, it was already it pretty rough shape.

Métropole dorée

One more skyline photo to round out this week’s series of posts featuring city views. This is of Montreal in the autumn, captured on my phone from the Olympic Stadium tower back in 2011.

Bustling

This is a busy scene at the old Fulton Fish Market near the South Street Seaport in Manhattan, New York, from back in August 2011.
