“Repeat Album” found … unusual limitation in iOS 7

So in iOS 7, it appears you can only repeat an album if you choose to listen to an album whilst browsing from the Album category. If you choose an album whilst browsing the Artist category, you can only choose to repeat the artist.
That’s a pretty weird limitation, especially for people like me, whose mind is set to sorting music by artist name rather than by album name.
Here’s hoping this is a temporary change.

Paris moderne

Towers of glass, steel and concrete are not the first things that come to mind when you say the word Paris.
And yet, tucked away in La Défense, is a pocket of futurism surrounded by a sea of history.

What happened to “Repeat Album” in iOS 7?

There does not appear to be a “Repeat album” option in the iOS 7 music player. A bit annoying.
Additionally, I’ve noticed some volume issues in playlists, where songs will suddenly get louder or quieter within the first few seconds. Perhaps something amiss with “Sound Check”?
In any case, there is apparently an update to iOS 7.0.2 that mainly corrects a security problem … perhaps these will be addressed, too?

UPDATE: Answered my own question, sort of. Please see this newer post.

Spotted this wonderful piece of street art not far from the Centre Pompidou when I was in Paris a year ago. The title of this post refers to the sign on the door.

Strange Mail behaviour in iOS 7

Since installing iOS 7 onto my iPhone 4S and third-generation iPad last week, I’ve noticed something strange about the default Mail application.
Mail on my devices is set to manual fetch, not push.
And yet, it seems to be automatically fetching e-mail when I close the mail application in the multitasking screen and when my device is booting after a restart.
Have you observed this (or any other) unexpected behaviour from Mail in iOS 7?

Train across Canada

All aboard!
Via Rail station, Moncton, N.B.

Instinct sent my left hand diving into my pant pocket, seeking a cellphone that wasn’t there.
What time was it?
I wasn’t even sure what time zone we were in anymore.
It took another second or two to realize time didn’t matter. Not right now.
As my final night aboard Via Rail’s “The Canadian” drew to a close, about a dozen of us were enjoying a live show performed by musicians Scarlett Flynn and Kevin Howley in the economy class Skyline lounge car.
The train was rolling southward along the Thompson River valley on its way to Kamloops, B.C., having left Jasper, Alberta, that afternoon.
Backpackers exploring Canada, people moving to a new job or to school, or just your garden-variety commuters with time to spare (as was the case for me), together joining the musicians in song.
Forget about trying to find that magical atmosphere aboard a plane.
When the party broke up and we scattered back to our rooms and seats for the night, we were less than 12 hours from Vancouver.
Too bad, I thought. It would have been just fine if time stood still.
