Fun with fruits and vegetables

From one of my trips earlier this year: This is one of the kids’ play areas at Calgary International Airport.

Hazy shade of summer

Calgary spent much of last week blanketed by smoke from nearby forest fires. It made for a few dreary scenes, such as the one above.

Doomed

Rebirth

This is — or more to the point, was — 101 to 129 19 St. N.W. When I snapped the top photo back in February 2013, I guessed the site would be overtaken by a condominium development. The bottom photo shows how things look now.

Smoke-tempered Supermoon

Here’s my contribution to all the Supermoon photos out there. No colour correction here: the moon had an orange glow about it last night, probably because of all the smoke from a forest fire not too far from Calgary.

Visual restoration underway

Visual restoration

Several months ago, I told you about an awesome mural in Calgary’s Kensington defaced by taggers. It suffered more damage since then but, subsequently, has received some tender loving care. What you see here is primer applied over some tagged section, made ready for the artist to re-create his masterpiece.

Watercolour coming alive

After the United Brotherhood Of Carpenters and Joiners left their longtime home on 10 St. N.W. in Calgary, a temporary wall went up around it … and soon after, the art began to appear.

Art in progress

Know your priorities

Good to know what’s where! This simple, elegant piece of marketing is between Peasant Cheese and Kensington Wine Market in Calgary. (Also: it’s very fortuitous for the cheese shop to have opened next to a wine shop.)

Holding out against the tide

With an entire neighbourhood disappearing around it, this house near the Calgary Stampede grounds has somehow withstood the changes. At last report, it was to be moved to make way for a condo project. When I last visited it at the end of April, it was already it pretty rough shape.

Chair for rent

This strange rental ad was seen in a Calgary window not too long ago … I wonder if anyone called?
