Artistic indiscretion

As you wander the public market along the harbour in Helsinki, this is one of the pieces of public art you can see close by. And everybody looks.

For good luck

This is the smallest statue in Stockholm, found in Gamla Stan. At only 15 cm tall, I can believe it! Also, not long after I snapped this shot, a hobo came by and snapped up all the cash …

Not as dangerous as it looks

Is this a brave soul or a foolish adventurer trying to free-climb the Kulturhuset in Stockholm? Neither: She’s a mannequin.

Tricoloured relief

What I thought at first was a quaint gag in this Oslo park turns out to be a permanent (and functional) art exhibition to celebrate 100 years of Norwegian independence.
Indeed, these are three original Parisian automated toilets renovated and reinstalled in Oslo in 2005, together bearing the slogan most associated with the French republic.
Read more about the concept behind this unusual art project at this link here.

Come a long way to see you

Here’s one view of The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen. Little would you know from this perspective but she was being absolutely swarmed with visitors at the time.

Rising above the landscape

This tribute to Otto van Bismarck was one of Hamburg’s landmarks visible from my hotel room. Seen up close, I confirmed my initial sense of how big the thing really is.

Arches and squares

Easily overlooked, tucked in behind the Centraal Station in Amsterdam, is this transit bus terminal with its fine curved glass roof modelled after the train shed next door.
