Sure, comic/fantasy/sci-fi conventions are often about star attractions and awesome costumes … but there’s much more.
Here’s a nod to the dozens of artists who toil on site and sell their creations, including Doug Nhung, seen sketching in this photo captured at the 2014 Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo on Sunday.

We’re down to the final hours of the 2014 Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. I’ll be wandering the convention Sunday afternoon … so see you there!
P.S.: Flaky Internet connections not withstanding, I’ll be tweeting.

One of the marquee events at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo this year was a cast reunion for the movie Aliens.
The actors discussed (among other things) their time on the set, their experiences working with director James Cameron and the impact of Alien on the sci-fi genre.
Here are a few snaps from Saturday night’s show.

inIt’s just about to get busy on the Calgary Stampede grounds for the 2014 Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.
For returning visitors, here are some early observations that will help you get around.
• No more lanyards with badges! They’ve switched to a wristband system. You can exchange your ticket for the wristband at the Stampede Grandstand. Lineup begins on the Tarmac … Just follow the signs.
• In an apparent effort to improve crowd control, some of the queuing for events is outside. This is of particular note this year, as the weather is forecast to worsen Saturday. As one Expo volunteer put it to me earlier: “Dress for the weather.” Could be a challenge for those of you who are wearing more elaborate costumes.
• Apart from ticket redemption, organizers have moved around a few other things, too, and there’s a new event area inside a huge tent in the middle of the grounds. You should keep that in mind as you navigate looking for people, vendors and events. They’re handing out an addendum to the Expo guide which contains a handy fold-out map of the place.
That’s it for now. More from Expo throughout the weekend.
P.S.: I’ll be tweeting: Look up @rleong101 on Twitter.
