New York

Some random wall art spotted on the west side (I think?) of New York City back in March 2011.

Flipping through some old photos today, I noticed I’ve accumulated images of quite a number of theatre marquees. Here are some of my favourites.

Great light way
Theatres at New York’s Times Square.

Bringin' U down
Plaza Theatre in Calgary.

Beethoven's Ninth
Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon.

Lyric Theatre
London’s Lyric Theatre.

Now screening
The defunct Uptown Theatre in Calgary.

Folies Pigalle
Les Folies Pigalle in Paris.

New Mission
San Francisco’s New Mission theatre marquee.

Corona Theatre
The Corona in Montreal.

Broadway-Lafayette St. station

Ah, the New York City Subway. I admire your efficiency. Snapped this one about two years ago on my last visit to the Big Apple.

Magic number

A follow-up to yesterday’s photo: This is at 66 St. Subway station in New York. Lots of beautiful ceramic art adorn the station walls — not just at that station but throughout all the underground parts of the network.

Red signal, XB200, New York City Subway

Whoever designed this signal and decided on its placement probably didn’t intend XB200 to be a piece of public art … but I think it fills this function just fine. Spotted in the New York Subway back in 2011.

All kinds of fish: Faded paint in Manhattan

I love “ghost” painted signage on old buildings. This one is near the South Street Seaport in Manhattan, seen as it was about two years ago.

Tall and slender: The Flatiron Building in New York

Recently re-processed this photo, taken about two years ago in New York, to test a relatively new HDR feature within Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software. It certainly works in a pinch … but there are far better HDR software options out there.
At least the building looks nice. We can’t go wrong there 🙂

Tea time

Tea

I was chatting on Saturday with a friend at work, about his trip to New York this summer.
We learned we are both very fond of the place and each of us would probably be quite happy living there, if it came to it.
Neither of us has fully experienced every part of New York’s five boroughs. I missed great chunks of Central Park, Harlem and the Upper East Side, to name a few neighbourhoods. He never made it to Little Italy and Chinatown.
Of course, trying to see everything at once on any given trip would likely be too much to process.
So I look forward to my next visit to NYC — to go to places I’ve missed before and to see how much things have changed in the parts of town I’ve already been to.
Ah, the joys of life (and visiting) in the big city.
