I am a mountain

The tour guide who safely led our party through the Lower Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona, last month took a lot of his time to point out rock formations that happened to resemble people’s faces or animals in battle. Frankly, I had some trouble seeing some of them … but this one was easy to visualize — cock your head and look straight up to find “Rocky Mountain”.

Houses along the Damrak canal in Amsterdam

Here’s an image snapped in Amsterdam on my very first trip to Europe, back in September 2012. These beautiful houses are lined up along the Damrak canal, just a stone’s throw from the main train station. And by the way … it’s not camera lens distortion you’re seeing — the floors in those building really do have a slight lean to them.

Red signals, Sunalta CTrain station, Calgary

A view of downtown Calgary from Sunalta CTrain station, the only elevated light-rail station on the Calgary Transit network. Snapped a few weeks ago.

Hoot, Frankfurt, Germany

This is a random ornament I spotted inside a café in Frankfurt, Germany, back in September 2015.

Phoenix Public Market

This neat sign with vintage-looking typography marks the location of the Phoenix Public Market and adjacent café in downtown Phoenix. The exterior space is a parking lot most of the time but turns into a market on Saturday mornings.

Mind's eye

Another snapshot from my visit to Prague back in the fall — this one showcasing a pleasing (IMHO!) juxtaposition of modern and historical architecture.

Distortion

A piece of public art in a yet-to-be-redeveloped space near the Sunnyside LRT station in Calgary. This un-retouched photo is one of a series of such images I snapped back in October to test my smartphone camera (iPhone 7) under adverse shooting conditions — in this case, backlighting and shadowing.
