Banff, Alberta, Canada

One of the many, many switchbacks on the way to the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff National Park. The path links the upper hot springs to the top of the gondola — an elevation change of 655 metres. It takes two hours (theoretically) to complete a one-way trip.

Banff, Alberta, Canada

Visitors who hike Sulphur Mountain in Banff National Park are warned to stay on the designated pathway to protect plants and wildlife in the area. Clearly, over the years, some people have not heeded the directive.

Banff, Alberta, Canada

The view from my bus window earlier today, just east of the Banff National Park boundary. Smoke from wildfires in British Columbia continues to hang over our region, bathing everything in a warm glow, all day long. The image is slightly cropped but otherwise not retouched.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

A retro-looking sign for a historic building housing Theatre Junction in downtown Calgary. According to this article, the building has had a variety of functions over the years, operating over the years as a traditional theatre, a movie house and, at one point, an indoor golf driving range.

Wandering through the Calgary’s Plus 15 walkway system in Arts Commons, visitors get a glimpse down into a workshop used to build sets for various performances.

The sun, punctuating the sky this evening above the entrance to a parking structure at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, fights through smoke from wildfires in neighbouring British Columbia.

Parkade

The west access to Calgary’s Centennial Parkade is one of the more majestic entrances I’ve seen for a parking garage.

A re-imagining of The Little Mermaid statue in downtown Calgary — a gift from the city’s Danish community back in the 1970s. The sculpture stands today in the Telus Convention Centre. The original statue stands on the waterfront in Copenhagen, Denmark.
