Montreal, Quebec, Canada

I can’t tell you how many times I might have walked past the piece of public art called “L’arbre de vie” (Tree of Life) at the Lionel-Groulx métro station in Montreal … but only this week did I notice the faces etched into the tree trunk.

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

This mural at Jeanne-Manse and President-Kennedy streets in Montreal has been around at least since I was a kid. I tripped out at it then … and it still makes me trip out now.

Punctuated

One of several characters part of a public art project embedded in the sidewalk at the Providence Park light rail station in Portland, Oregon. I didn’t notice them until my last visit to the city back in December — assuming they’ve been there for a while.

Some of the sculptures at the cathedral in Cologne, Germany. This snapshot is from September 2015, when I took advantage of train transfer for a brief wander in the city centre.

One of the many animal-themed sculptures on the sidewalk ringing the Pioneer Courthouse in Portland, Oregon. This view is from my visit to that city in March 2015.

Portland, Oregon

When art and public works come together: This elaborate and illustrative manhole cover can be found on the multiuser pathway on the west side of the Willamette River in downtown Portland, Oregon. It’s street art in the purest sense of the term. Snapped this picture on a visit there last month.
