From day to night

We are so lucky in Calgary to get such beautiful sunsets — and I never tire of capturing them. Here’s another one for you, snapped on Jan. 1.

Keeping things simple

Keeping things simple

Many of the exhibits at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam this past summer were annotated with these little sticky notes of sorts, each with some artistic prose. The author of this particular message seems to like to keep it light.

Farewell to 5 Pointz

Making all the right moves

I read on the Interwebs in the last few days of the demise of 5 Pointz, a large industrial complex in Queens that was once a haven for graffiti artists.
And what a haven it was. Much of the building’s exterior surface was transformed from a one-time industrial wasteland to colourful, bright urban art.
The building even hosted artists inside for a time.
Here are some snapshots from that place, taken on my last visit to New York in August 2011. I’m very glad I got to see it before it was dismantled.

New York, pray

Pointillé

Cool little lights under the marquee of the Imperial Theatre in Montreal. Snapped this when I was visiting late last year.

Barbelé

This abandoned industrial complex sits at rue St. Ambroise and rue St. Rémi in Montreal’s St. Henri neighbourhood.

Miniature

Two of the many Christmas trees I’ve spotted this season, both of these from my recent trip to Montreal.
The one above is barely 10 centimetres tall … the one below is more like 10 metres!

Éclairer la nuit

A festive mood hangs over Boul. Saint-Laurent in Montreal in this image from about two weeks ago.

Histoire, en bref

This is one portion of a mural on Mount Royal Ave. E. in Montreal, which briefly recounts the history of Quebec. Snapped this photo late last month.

Je l'ai trouvé!

All over Montreal’s Plateau Mont-Royal, from the more-than-life-size wall art on Boul. Saint-Laurent, above, to the little stickers seen on buildings on and around Ave. du Mont-Royal, below, are four-eyed figures with short messages for passersby.

Vas-y

Under our wing

That’s the edge of Calgary out the window on my flight home last week.
