Rock solid. Between a rock and a hard place. Hard as a rock. So many of expressions and clichés are built upon the durability of rocks.
And yet, wandering through the maze that makes up the Lower Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona, one can only be struck by how malleable rock truly is.
It was water that carved out the canyon. And with every summer rainstorm, it is water that continues to shape and reshape the place.
The result is visually stunning, of course — sunlight giving life to a wavy, rippling red-rock landscape reaching dozens of metres deep.

In trendy downtown Tempe, Arizona, stands the shell of what used to be the Hayden Flour Mill. The historic hulk, which occupies the southeast corner of Rio Salado Parkway and Mill Avenue (appropriately), can be seen up close. There’s a small park adjacent to the building and there are placards along the outside detailing the history of the place. You can even peek inside through the windows to survey the all machinery abandoned and left in place. According to the City of Tempe, the site is awaiting appropriate redevelopment.

This is the view from one of the many breathtaking viewpoints along Hermit Road in Grand Canyon National Park, at Grand Canyon Village, Arizona. Our party had been dodging clouds on and off, all afternoon, a couple of Fridays ago and it was fortunate they had moved along far enough by day’s end to allow for some decent photography.
