Plaza refreshed

Digging through some photos from late 2013, I came across this quick snapshot of a poster reproducing an artist’s rendition for a remake of Horton Plaza Park in San Diego, above.
It struck me at the time how much those tall metallic columns really look like the Luminous Crossing towers of light at either end of the Calgary transit mall, below.
There’s no evidence (none I could find, anyway) the same artist is responsible for both, which makes this visual/design coincidence even more striking.

Twist of colour

Folding unto itself

This Frank Gehry-designed structure in Seattle is as dynamic as the ambient light around it.
Constructed for the 1962 World’s Fair, the building now houses the EMP Museum.

Destroying what others create: Calgary street art defaced

Some create, others destroy

Of all the walls in Calgary to tag, why choose this one? (Not that I like this kind of nuisance graffiti anyway.)
I feel terribly for whoever installed the original art on this building and hope that it can somehow be recovered.

Portrait of peeling paint

Where most of us would have seen this as merely a patch of peeled paint on a drab concrete wall, one creative soul saw something more. Another image from my quick visit to Seattle last month.

Towering flower

A flower made of glass gets cosy with the Seattle Space Needle.

Rah, rah, raw

Another piece of street art from my recent trip to Portland: This two-dimensional fella is clearly pleased about something.
