London, England, U.K.

So … this is certainly not the song title you remember. Spotted recently in Camden Town, London.

Politically astute commentary

Some very smart graffiti scrawled onto a wall in Calgary’s Kensington neighbourhood, spotted a few days ago. Too bad few people will see it in person: It’s in a space about half-a-metre wide between two buildings on 10 St. N.W.

Where I create, there I am true

Even at construction sites, the graffiti aficionados of Munich seem to only pick the best ideas for use in defacing temporary walls. Spotted back in September.

Farewell to 5 Pointz

Making all the right moves

I read on the Interwebs in the last few days of the demise of 5 Pointz, a large industrial complex in Queens that was once a haven for graffiti artists.
And what a haven it was. Much of the building’s exterior surface was transformed from a one-time industrial wasteland to colourful, bright urban art.
The building even hosted artists inside for a time.
Here are some snapshots from that place, taken on my last visit to New York in August 2011. I’m very glad I got to see it before it was dismantled.

New York, pray

Kitty cat

A contribution of sorts to Caturday: Spotted this graffiti in Hamburg back in the summer.

Visual restoration

Several months ago, I told you about an awesome mural in Calgary’s Kensington defaced by taggers. It suffered more damage since then but, subsequently, has received some tender loving care. What you see here is primer applied over some tagged section, made ready for the artist to re-create his masterpiece.

Destroying what others create: Calgary street art defaced

Some create, others destroy

Of all the walls in Calgary to tag, why choose this one? (Not that I like this kind of nuisance graffiti anyway.)
I feel terribly for whoever installed the original art on this building and hope that it can somehow be recovered.

Add this to the many other “I Heart Cheese” sightings in Montreal! Spotted a few months ago.
