When I was last in Montreal this April, I had the good fortune to take a guided tour of the Olympic Stadium.
My last previous visit there was for the very last home game of the Montreal Expos.
While I felt a bit of nostalgia when we were escorted into the main stadium, standing on the sidelines overlooking the main playing and exhibition surface, I was also saddened by how few events now use the “Big O” nowadays.
It’s a wasted opportunity for the stadium to stand empty as often as it is, devoid of most professional sports and trade shows.

Apparently, we live and breathe men’s hockey. These guys are two of thousands of very happy Calgarians who spilled out onto 17 Ave. S.W. Sunday afternoon after Team Canada defeated Team USA in overtime, winning the game 3-2 and scoring this country’s 14th gold medal of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
And here’s a happy gal stuck in traffic. She doesn’t seem to mind.
