Opera, Copenhagen, Denmark

The opera house in Copenhagen is such an imposing sight. This was snapped during my August 2014 visit to northern Europe.

Stockholm, Sweden

A view of Stockholm, Sweden, from the observation deck of the city’s main television/radio broadcasting tower. Snapped this in August 2014.

In-spiring view

From a brief visit to Hamburg almost three years ago … this is the clock tower at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. I can tell you it’s a long climb to the top — great cardio exercise at the very least, rewarded with nice views if you like that sort of thing.

This sign marks the eastern end of the pedestrian-cyclist shared zone on Stephen Avenue, just across from Calgary city hall.

Owing nothing

Some intriguing street art on an unused building on Macleod Tr. in Calgary, across from Stampede Park.

One of the more fascinating things for me at the recently wrapped Calgary Stampede was to hang out at the historical exhibits in the Western Oasis at the BMO Centre. Tucked away in the far corner of the exhibition hall was a display of historical photos and old maps, including this one showing Rouleauville, which we know today as Calgary’s Mission neighbourhood.

Calgary Stampede, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

A wider view of By the Banks of the Bow, a public art installation at Calgary’s Stampede Park. Good to see people embracing this sculpture, literally and metaphorically. Here’s the tighter visual from a few days ago.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

It’s still seems very unusual to see modern buildings with windows that open, as with the Bow office tower in Calgary. I’m glad designers and building owners are going back to this — when the exterior air conditions are right, nothing beats an open window.
