Roots of the path

Going up Cascade Mountain in Banff National Park was made a little easier thanks to many exposed tree roots serving as steps going up and down the trails.

Water of the spirits

Returned to Banff National Park on Friday to hike up Cascade Mountain with a friend. Afterwards, we took over a couple of Muskoka chairs on the shore of Lake Minnewanka for a quick, late lunch — with a nice view on the side.

Peaks and valleys

Here are a few more snaps from a visit around the town of Banff last weekend.

Looking east(ish), above, through the trees at the top of Tunnel Mountain. Below, from top to bottom, Cascade Mountain looms over Banff Avenue, seen from bridge over the Bow River; looking west(ish) along the Bow River and the Canadian Pacific rail line, from top of Tunnel Mountain; and two images from the Marsh Loop trail.

Clearing along the river

I almost walked past this neat photo opportunity on the Bow River Pathway in Calgary last week — an unexpected break in the trees giving a clear view of the river, the Centre Street Bridge and the city centre. It pays not to be in a rush, if at all possible!

View from Birch Avenue

Went with a friend to hike this past weekend in the town of Banff, nestled amongst the mountains in the national park bearing the same name. This is one of the splendid views along the Bow River from within the town.

Stephen Avenue

Historic Stephen Avenue in downtown Calgary had been a pedestrian-only zone during the day. Now, because of the COVID-19 pandemic and a desire to make the street more amenable to restaurant/bar patios, cars are not allowed pretty much all day long, except in the morning to allow for deliveries.
