Tuscany CTrain station, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Today, the Rocky Ridge and Tuscany neighbourhoods are just far-flung suburban areas of Calgary. But back in the 1950 and ’60, there was not much around the area, except a lot of open spaces and a service station along the highway to Cochrane.

The Eamon’s Bungalow Camp sign was restored and made part of the Tuscany CTrain station. The garage was put into storage some time ago and purchased for a nominal sum by a group in High River, to be restored and used there.

The photos here were snapped a few days ago.

Having some fun with painted highway lines. This is Crowchild Trail in northwest Calgary, seen from the pedestrian overpass at Tuscany CTrain station.

Here are a couple of cute costumed kids spotted on the floor at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo at the end of April.

I don’t recall seeing this done before in cosplay at Calgary Expo: A smartphone embedded into a costume — an used as part of same. Spotted at last weekend’s convention.

Colm Meaney at Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo

It was a short visit to Calgary Expo for me this year, with time for only one panel discussion. I picked one with Colm Meaney, known for his roles on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Hell on Wheels and a bevy of feature films. Here, he is speaking about the 2013 flood in Calgary, which affected Hell on Wheels’s production on the outskirts of the city. He said the flood washed away their set and displaced the cast and crew multiple times before they got to high-enough ground.

Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo

Amid the dizzying array of dazzling costumes I came across at Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo on Sunday, this depiction from Star Wars is one of the standouts, in my humble opinion.

Batmobile, Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo

In anticipation of my one and only day attending the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo tomorrow, here are two iconic vehicles from the comic and science-fiction world — Batman’s Batmobile, above, and the DeLorean from Back to the Future, below. Spotted both during my first Calgary Expo back in 2012.

Poppy Plaza, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Today is the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy, a First World War encounter in France now widely regarded as a seminal moment that helped shape Canada as a country. Calgary’s Poppy Plaza is one the memorial monuments erected in honour of Canadian veterans.
