Chinatown, London

This ornament greets visitors from high above a street in London’s Chinatown. Seen on my visit there in September 2016.

Balestrand, Norway

Found this tree branch flashing a smile back at me as I wandered around Balestrand, Norway, back in August 2014.

Deutsche Bahn sleeping car

This is a view of the sleeping car hallway as we rolled down the track from Köln to Berlin … as seen with my smartphone camera through the peephole in the door. Shot on my travels through Europe this past September.

Ill-fated expedition

This engraving in London, on Waterloo Place not far from Trafalgar Square, is part of a memorial to Sir John Franklin, leader of an ill-fated 1840s expedition in search of the Northwest Passage through Arctic Canadian waters.

I snapped this image in September 2016, just days after it was reported the wreck a second ship from his small fleet, HMS Terror, appears to have been found intact and in perfect condition at the bottom of the appropriately named Terror Bay, Nunavut.

The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen, Denmark

Everyone wants to see the statue of The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen. (Even me!) Snapped back in August 2014.

Willamette Iron Works, Seattle, Washington

Just a plain old sign made special by weather-beaten oxidation and sunlight passing through the leaves of a nearby tree. Spotted in Seattle, Washington, in November 2015.

Fairytale cityscape

Prague doesn’t need too much dressing up to look its best. Captured this photo on the last day of my visit there, back in September.

Arches over tracks, Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof

Here’s a view inside the train shed at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, in some photos taken back in September 2015. I quite like how the roof is reflected in the windshield of the train waiting at Track 21, below.

Public art to Centre Street LRT station, Calgary

Public art at the Centre Street CTrain station in downtown Calgary: These poor figures are condemned to the fate of perpetually waiting for the next train.

Photo booth

Ah, the purveyor of convenient selfies in the era before smartphones. A technician works on a photo booth at North Hill Centre, Calgary. (Ricky Leong photo)

If you’ve ever wondered what an automated photo booth looks like when the user interface is torn away … this post is for you. (And yes, photo booths still exist!) This happened as I was wandering into the grocery store.
