Blues and reds

Calgary’s Poppy Plaza late in the evening under a deep blue sky, its trees bathing in red light.

Golden hour at Scotsman's Hill

The sun slowly sinks behind the clouds and the Calgary skyline, as seen last weekend from one of the city’s iconic viewpoints.

Vestiges of Stampede

One of the pubs on Stephen Avenue in downtown Calgary was recently all dressed up for what would have been the Calgary Stampede. The fair and rodeo’s usual activities were cancelled this year due to COVID-19.

Fremont Street

From my visit back in December, a nighttime snap of the giant multimedia canopy that covers a few blocks of Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.

Galaxy of artificial fireflies

A view from a cool piece of art that on display at the Phoenix Art Museum.

“You Who Are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies” by artist Yayoi Kusama, above, is a darkened house of mirror filled with strings of colour-changing LEDs.

Below, I had some fun with the camera while inside the art display.

Stampede spirit

Although the COVID-19 pandemic put practically all of the Calgary Stampede’s activities on hold this year, the organization put on a fireworks display on what would have been the first and last days of the fair/rodeo.

Here was the view from Scotsman’s Hill in Ramsay on the night of the second show on Sunday, July 12, 2020.

Structures

Some cool rock formations paired with equally cool clouds just outside Kingman, Arizona, as seen through the window of an intercity bus back in December.

West side glow

Light from the setting spring sun casts a wonderful glow on the buildings in the west-end of downtown Calgary. Spotted from the Mewata Bridge back in April.
